Bonsai v. 0022

The latest version of Bonsai software brings additional functionality.
In my opinion the most important is the addition of screen VU meters which show audio levels during recording and replay. It is possible to view 2 channels, 10 channels or turn the VU meters off, and input and output audio levels are now adjustable. New is also support for SDI (Serial digital) option, and there are additional video sync adjustments and many 9 pin improvements.

Bonsai rack

The new Bonsai rack is a 2HE 19" rack enclosure which holds Bonsai itself and a removable hard disk tray. All connection cables are routed inside the box which is a good solution for studio. The connection panel of Bonsai protrudes on the back of the unit. The 9 pin connector which is located on the remote is brought out on the back of the unit using a (supplied) cable.
But there is one disadvantage. The remote control panel cannot be detached from the main unit. If you want to move Bonsai to a machine room (where it belongs) you will not be able to control it from your desktop. Perhaps Rosendahl is working on a LAN option that will enable control of Bonsai from the computer.

This may be or may not be a problem, but I prefer to have a hardware control over Bonsai at any time, specialy during recording, adjusting clip offsets and enabling/disabling 9pin control among other.

My version of Bonsai rack

I made my own rack with detachable control panel.

There are no operational changes compared to standard Bonsai drive. The pin 20 of the flat cable connecting the drive must be removed for Bonsai to recognize the drive.
