The fig of 8 tracks which are routed to R and RS must have PHASE REVERSE inserted.

Since faders 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 are linked we have 5 faders in total to control the 5.0 output. With them we can create variable width surround channel feeds, control the front MS etc. Endless combinations are possible using microphones with variable polar patterns.

Nuendo has more than one advantage over analog decoders. Phase reversal is perfect, as is level matching between channels. Adding automation completes the picture.

It is possible to use 2 directional microphones instead of figure of 8 microphone, with exactly the same result. In this case the right facing microphone would have to be phase inverted and summed with left facing microphone output, while the rest of the ciruit would remain unchanged. The number of recorded tracks would increase to four. But this would complicate a bit our Nuendo setup because another stage would have to be introduced for phase reversal, negating somehow the initial simplicity.
